Welcome

What to Expect

Walking into a new church for the first time can be an intimidating experience. Every church is different, and it can be difficult to enter a place where everyone already seems to know each other. When you visit us at Second Street, however, we will do everything we can to make you feel as welcome as possible.

We want you to feel the warm, family atmosphere and sense of love that we hold for each other. Second Street is a church where everyone is welcome! This page is designed to answer some of your questions and help you feel more comfortable visiting with us so that you have a meaningful worship experience.

What do I wear?

At Second Street, you will find people who come to worship in jeans, and you will find people who wear business attire. The majority of our members come dressed somewhere in between with a "business casual" style. Your presence is what is important to us, not your clothing style, and we would love for you to come as you are.

What about my kids?

During the worship service, we feel it is important for families to be together. Teaching our children by example and experiencing the family atmosphere is essential in building faith in our children.

For Bible Class, we offer a range of classes for children of all ages staffed with adults who have years of experience and who possess a love for children. Also, during our worship service time, a nursery is available for children under 2 years.

What am I Expected to do During Worship?

First, rest assured you will not be pointed out as a visitor, asked to stand or in any way be made to feel uncomfortable. You "feeling at ease" and "your comfort" are our utmost concern.

There are several different elements that make up our worship service, and we invite you to participate in each part with us. All our singing is done by the entire church family- led by our worship team. We do not have a choir or performers, and it's all done without musical accompaniment. We believe it is a great joy for all Christians to sing songs together.

Every Sunday morning during the worship service, we take communion, which is a symbolic meal, that consists of bread and grape juice. The purpose of our communion is to help us focus on the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.

Our services also have a time of teaching in which our minister will examine a section of the Bible and teach about how that scripture can help us better understand God's word in the world and how that applies to us. Our order of worship changes from week to week, but we typically begin and end with a prayer, and we usually finish around 11:15.

What about Bible Classes?

Every Sunday morning before worship, we have adult Bible classes. We typically offer at least two classes with varying topics from which you can choose. We also have classes specifically designed for children and youth. In Bible class we spend our time studying and discussing the Bible and exploring how biblical principles apply to our everyday lives. In our Bible class you will find people who are eager to get to know you, and who come from a wide variety of backgrounds. In our Bible classes, some people will make comments and provide thoughts while others prefer to not comment. We will not pressure you to speak in front of the group or read aloud, but we also want you to know that we are happy to have you study with us. Some of our members have a vast knowledge of the Bible and some have just started reading it for the first time, so no matter where you are in your life, we are glad to have you in Bible class.

What's The Goal of The Second Street Church?

At Second Street, we always want to make sure we are not just "going through the motions." We are trying hard to live as godly people on a daily basis. We want to serve the needs of the community around us by helping people throughout the area. We also seek to serve each other by caring for one another in difficult situations and deepening relationships as we help each other navigate through life.

Ultimately, our goal is to grow the Kingdom of God by sharing the Good News of Jesus so our friends and neighbors can experience a healthy, growing, life-changing relationship with God. We believe that only by having a growing relationship with God within a church founded on Jesus Christ can people find true fulfillment in life and enjoy the eternal blessing of Heaven after this life is over. Come and join us on our journey!

How Do I Learn More About The Second Street Church?

We would welcome the opportunity to talk with you about our relationship with God and about our church! There are many ways to contact us: give us a call during the week, talk with one of our ministers or Shepards, or speak with one of the Second Street Family. Go to the Welcome Station before or after the service for more information, activities for the kids, or even a tour to show you exactly where classrooms are for you and your family. We are happy to talk with you about how God is working in our lives and in this church family, and we want to welcome and encourage you on your journey of faith!

We all have stories to share...

And our stories are not much different than yours. We have faced our share of hardship, suffering, guilt, disappointment, loss, and sadness. But, we are also learning to discover joy, connection, and peace that can only be found in Jesus.
